Excursion to the nature reserve "Heiligensee und Hütelmoor"

On Friday March 18th we had a very nice and very informative excursion to our study site the nature reserve "Heiligensee und Hütelmoor" (translates to something like "Saints Lake & Trembling Mire"). The volunteer ward of the reserve (Joachim Schmidt), the head of the forestry administration of the city of Rostock (Jörg Harmuth), and the responsible person for administrating the reserve at the forestry administration of the city of Rostock (Angelika Stoll) showed us around.

We made a nice hike circling around the whole reserve and learned a lot about the genesis of the peatland, its underlying geomorphology, the land use and rewetting history, its vegetation, and fauna. It was very informative and inspiring. We are very thankful to the people who showed us around.
