On January 2nd 2019 finally happened what Baltic TRANSCOAST - scientists have long been waiting for: Low-pressure system "Zeetje" resulted in the highest water levels since 1954 and caused a massive inflow of saltwater into the coastal peat land "Hütelmoor". To study the effect of such inflow events on the biology, biogeochemistry and hydrology is one of the mayor goals of Baltic TRANSCOAST.
