B086 - Wetlands and Peatlands in a Changing Climate: Science and Management (https://agu.confex.com/agu/fm21/prelim.cgi/Session/117682)
Climate change is recognized as a threat to wetland and peatland ecosystems through alterations in hydrological regimes. Small changes in the hydrological and climatic conditions (e.g., rewetting, drainage, freezing and thawing, groundwater and surface water interactions) can modulate their ecology and (bio)geochemistry for the greenhouse gas (CO2, CH4 and N2O) exchange. These ecosystems can also play an important role in the overall landscape resilience through water and nutrient cycles. The ecosystem services of peatlands and wetlands greatly depend on our future efforts to restore and manage them in a science-based manner. We welcome presentations on the role of coupled hydroclimatic and (bio)geochemical processes of wetlands and peatlands in a changing climate. We particularly encourage the presentations of newly developing methodologies and coupled experiment-modelling approaches that address the impact of hydroclimatic changes on the functioning of wetlands and peatlands, with specific recommendations for management, adaptation and resiliency to protect these ecosystems.
